Technical SEO and Conversion Checklist for a High-Performance Website

Technical SEO and conversion optimization should not be separate workstreams. A page that cannot be discovered has no opportunity to convert, while a page that ranks but creates friction wastes demand. Review both systems together.

Crawlability and index control

  • Important pages return a successful status and are not blocked by robots directives.
  • Canonical URLs point to the intended version of each page.
  • Redirects are direct, purposeful and free from loops.
  • The XML sitemap contains indexable canonical pages only.
  • Internal links connect services, industries, locations and related insights.

Page purpose and search alignment

Each page needs one clear purpose, a descriptive title, a useful main heading and copy that answers the visitor’s actual question. Avoid creating several pages that compete for the same intent. Consolidate weak overlap and differentiate pages by audience, market or problem where the distinction is genuine.

Performance fundamentals

  • Resize and compress images; serve modern formats where supported.
  • Load non-critical scripts later and remove unused dependencies.
  • Cache static assets and minimize layout shifts.
  • Use responsive images and explicit dimensions.
  • Monitor server response and database queries, not only front-end assets.

Content structure and trust

Use a logical heading hierarchy, scannable paragraphs, descriptive links and clear service details. Add genuine author, company and contact information. Claims should be specific and verifiable; unsupported superlatives weaken trust even when they sound impressive.

Accessibility and mobile usability

Test keyboard navigation, focus states, form labels, error messages, contrast, touch targets and reduced-motion preferences. Review pages on real mobile devices and slower connections. Accessibility improvements frequently reduce conversion friction for everyone.

Conversion integrity

  • The primary call to action matches the page intent.
  • Forms work, validate clearly and protect against spam.
  • Phone, email and booking links are correct.
  • Thank-you pages and analytics events confirm completion.
  • Sales teams know the source and context of each enquiry.

Structured data and sharing

Use schema that accurately represents the page and organization. Validate JSON-LD after content changes. Set useful Open Graph information so shared links communicate the correct title, description and image.

Run the checklist on a schedule

Complete a full review before launch, after major releases and at least quarterly for active sites. Monitor critical errors continuously, but reserve time for human review of clarity, accuracy and customer journeys.
